Sean and I have been talking about our honeymoon... and goodness...its going to be expensive... We happen to pick our wedding the week before Easter and consequently, our honeymoon is spring break week. Which means prices go up... A.LOT!!
We are thinking about Hawaii... I have never been and Sean has only been once. I am sure it would be great... but I am also sure that it will be expensive, a good hotel is 300 to 400 a night.. and I don't know about you guys, but I sure don't drop that kind of cash especially x7 (one week).
I don't mean to always be pointing out the negatives, I know my honeymoon will be great, but does it have to cost so much? We really want to GO somewhere, but a place that normally wouldn't be too expensive, like Mexico, is super packed (with a bunch of underage college kids no less) and super expensive.
Arrg... Sean is on a fire right now, so we are going to talk about it when he gets back, but its so frustrating to look at first how much we are going to spend on this wedding.. and then second how much we are going to be spend on our honeymoon, and then see whats leftover to try and get into a condo or house?? How does THAT happen??

my dear... I know it is stressful. Have you thought about going somewhere kind of local maybe up the coast for a few days and then take your real honeymoon a month after?
Not really possible because of Sean's work. He has off for the month we get married, but he starts up again right after it :( and we haven't ruled out the local route, but we wanted to go somewhere "special" haha... you know.. the romantic dream :)
You should look up towards Cambria or San Louis Obispo... it is absolutly romantic and beautiful! and far enough away! Or palm desert... its fun! Just a few suggestions :)
Oh just check
www.tripadvisor.com before you book anything to make sure you aren't going to be disappointed :)
Love ya!
You don't have to take my advice, but I'm going to give it...I feel really strongly about it (after having had a honeymoon that went about as wrong as it could go...)
Learn from our mistake!
Reasons (from a wise married woman) why you should stay semi-local for your honeymoon:
1) Airlines are screwy. They ALWAYS change your flight, and they are unreliable...so you may end up flying the DAY of your wedding so you DON'T get your honeymoon night like we did :-(
2) HONESTLY, all you want to do is rest, stay in bed with your new spouse and turn on the tv. You're so tired after all the wedding drama (and there WILL be drama, there always is)
2b) That thing you're excited to do on your honeymoon...it's the main attraction...not the scenic parts of an exotic island
3) We haven't taken a vacation since our honeymoon. Too pricey.
I recommend (strongly) that you go somewhere within driving distance. That way you go on your own schedule, the airlines can't screw you, and you can spend your time with your spouse, not trying to get up early and do "all that you can do" while you're somewhere exotic.
Then for your 1 year anniversary, do that exotic vacation so that you can enjoy your spouse AND your vacation...plus, you can focus on seeing that exotic island and not what's "under the sheets" :-)
Love you!! That's why I speak candidly.
Okay seriously you need to look up Couples in Jamaica. It is amazing and only for couples so I don't think you'd have the college kid's problem and when we went it was really affordable all inclusive and better than Hawaii as I've been there to. Of coarse it was my honeymoon in Jamaica so I might be a little biased. It's a great place you really should check it out! :)
I know this is a tough decision cuz I have heard that the "all inclusive" resorts are awesome, but we rented a convertible and drove up the coast and stayed at bed and breakfast's all the way up to San Fransisco - it was awesome! And then we went to Hawaii later and it was so fun and relaxing :)
Being in the wedding business, I always tell the brides that you only get ONE real honeymoon!! Do something you would not usually do! You will have FUN no matter what!!
Don't start you marriage in debt! We didn't have a lot of money either...so we drove out to CO and stayed a week in my hubby's uncle's cabin. It was free and we had a great time! (I wont tell you now how is parents and siblings ended up "suprising us fora visit...another story) My advice is to go local and save up some money...you could take a nice vacation to celebrate your 1 year ann.
Just my thoughts! I wish I owned a beautiful house in Hawaii that I can give you for a week for you wedding present!
check out the el capitan campground its NOT camping!! its in santa barbara... and it was featured in sunset mag jeff and i are going soon!! it looks like a very romantic place! then you can plan to go to hawaii for your 1 year anniversary!!!!
check it out.. just google el capitan campground and it will all come up then you can hit a spa and shop and wine taste... but not spend more than you can~
another idea.. is ask for this as your gift from his parents! hmmm jeffs parents took care of our honeymoon for us! good luck and remember whatever you do will be fabulous!!!!!!!
